Within the last 10 years, new Energy Star-qualified, high-efficiency boilers and furnaces have become available.
To be considered Energy Star qualified, the unit must have an annual fuel utilization efficiency of 85% or greater. Units from only 15 years ago can have an efficiency in the low 80’s. Slightly older units can have efficiencies in the 70% range. A new boiler/furnace that is Energy Star qualified can save you 20% or more in fuel costs your first year!
